Copyright for CCPS Educators

What happens if I ignore this?

According to CCPS Board Policy, "Employees who willfully violate the district's copyright policy do so at their own risk and may be required to remunerate the district in the event of a loss resulting from litigation."

"Employees are hereby notified that willful infringement of the law may result in disciplinary action."

Professional insurance will not cover you for flagrant copyright violations. And, the fines assessed can be substantial. Statutory damages can range from $750 to $30,000 for EACH offense. If the court finds willfulness, the fine for each violation can go up to $150,000. If willful infringement for commercial gain is proven, the fines go up to $250,000, or 5 years imprisonment, or both.
